The main objective of Naturskolan - The Outdoor / Environmental Education Unit in Lund - is to act as a source of inspiration and support for schools in the Lund area in their work in the field of environmental studies and natural science. Naturskolan encourages study of the natural world in the classroom, in the school grounds, in the local community and on the county and international level.

Pre-schools, primary, secondary and sixth form schools in Lund District Council can draw upon the expertise and experience of Naturskolan , completely free of charge.

We work with you `in house´, at your own school or place of work. We can offer help with the supervision of project work, the holding of presentations and can offer further education courses in education for sustainable development (ESD). We advise schools embarking upon ESD programmes and often take an active role in seeing to it that the measures are successfully implemented.

Naturskolan is acting in the centre of the `Green School Grounds´ network. This environmental information system is distributing ideas and tips on how school grounds can be used and transformed where necessary into healthy and safe learning environments. In our data base you will be able to find documented experience and knowledge from work carried out on  Green School Grounds projects.

Life is a learning process. In line with the objectives laid out in the National Curriculum, Naturskolan plans and carries out further education courses in natural science and ESD studies for Lund District Council’s employees. We design tailor-made courses for individual schools’ special requirements.

We are living in exciting times. Students and teachers from different countries can communicate with each other at the flick of a switch. Naturskolan can help you in your efforts to communicate with schools around the world; and environmental issues within school grounds and society in general are the perfect topics for meaningful discussion and the exchanging of ideas and experiences. The mission of the Agenda 21 programme is to facilitate cooperation and collaboration across national boundaries and it is to this principle that Naturskolan strongly adher.

Environmental education can act as the basis for the aquisition of all knowledge - it stands at the meeting point of the humanities and natural science. The most effective way to carry out this kind of education is to encourage the creation of an environmental awareness in relation to the school grounds, the local community, throughout the surrounding region and throughout the world.
